In a incredible act of kindness, a customer left a $10,000 tip on a $32 bill at The Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor, Michigan, leaving the staff in complete shock.
The manager, Tim Sweeney, was so astonished that he had a conversation with the customer to confirm the enormous tip. “Absolute disbelief to begin with. We went back and forth. He wanted to proceed. The server was absolutely shocked,” Sweeney told WOOD-TV, a station based in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The story becomes even more touching when the reason behind the $10,000 tip is revealed. The customer was in town for a friend’s funeral and decided to leave the tip as a tribute to his friend’s memory.
The Mason Jar Cafe shared a photo of the receipt on their Instagram account, expressing their gratitude for this life-changing act. “In a time where so much is happening, we wanted to share and thank the person who did this life-changing act. Things can feel real heavy sometimes, but this was such an amazing act to have seen first hand in our restaurant,” they wrote.
The server who received the tip decided to share the money with the other eight people on staff at the time. “It was just really an act of kindness that impacted so many people,” said server Paige Mulick. Each staff member received $1,100, making this act of kindness even more impactful.
