“God is calling you into a new season.”
“God is releasing you from your obligations.”
“This chapter of your life is coming to a close.”
They joke about being “better stewards” of the church’s payroll and suggest the firing is really just Jake entering a “season of rest.”
They even compare the situation to Chick-fil-A, noting that even after you stop working there, you are still “in the family” and can return as a customer.
The pastor eventually lands on his closing line: “Look eye contact. I say, ‘Hey, listen, this door is closing. That God is closing a door, but another one might be opening.'”
The sketch wraps up with the staff member agreeing to print an NDA to make things official.
