The History of ‘Farther Along’

The song they perform has brought peace to many generations and was first printed in the 1911 hymnal ‘Select Hymns for Christian Worship and General Gospel Service’ by Barney Elliott Warren. Many people believe a traveling preacher named W. A. Fletcher wrote the lyrics on a train back in 1911 while he was feeling deeply discouraged about being away from his pregnant wife.

This beautiful song tells us that we do not have to understand everything right now. The lyrics say:

“Tempted and tried we’re oft made to wonder / why it should take us all the day long / while there were others living about us / never molested though in the wrong”

It is a message of pure hope because the chorus promises that when we finally see Jesus coming in glory we will understand it all. We do not need to worry because our true home is in heaven with Him.

A Family Sharing the Love of Jesus

In this video, Blake Wood and his father Steven Wood are sharing that powerful message through a moving performance in their living room.

Steven was raised in Indiana as a pastor’s kid, and he has spent his life writing and producing beautiful gospel albums like ‘Country Gospel’.

In this performance, they sit close together with their acoustic guitars and their voices blend in perfect harmony. It’s such a joy to see a father and son working together for the Kingdom of God.

If you are going through a difficult time right now, we encourage you to hold on to the promises of the Lord. He loves you and He will never leave you or forsake you.

Let us pray for one another that our faith remains strong until we finally meet Jesus.
