A little boy was found miraculously alive after being lost in the woods in extreme weather conditions and he has thanked an unlikely friend for it—a bear.

3-year-old Casey Hathaway was playing in his great-grandmother’s backyard in Ernul, North Carolina with his two siblings when they called for the children to come inside, and he was not to be seen. His family searched for him for 45 minutes in the area and then decided to call 911.

The next 48 hours, the FBI, law enforcement, dozens of volunteers, rescue workers, and drones searched over 1,000 acres of terrain to find Casey, but then the extreme weather, wind and rain caused them to pause the search till conditions improved.

The next day, the Craven County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a a local who heard a little boy crying for his mother, which led rescuers 50 yards into the woods where Casey was tangled in some thorny bushes on the other side of a river. He was drenching wet but was fine. They gave the boy some water and reunited him with his family, but were surprised by what the boy told them next. Casey told them that he was kept safe by a friendly bear.

His aunt Breanna Hathaway posted on her Facebook, “Casey is healthy, smiling and talking. He said he hung out with a bear for two days,” She added, “God sent him a friend to keep him safe. God is a good God. Miracles do happen.”

It’s still not confirmed if his story is real or imaginary, but the Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said that for a little boy to survive such a horrible ordeal was nothing less than astonishing. He has treated for minor cuts and bruises at the Carolina East Medical Center, and is now healthy and in good spirits.

What Casey experienced was nothing short of a miracle and this really proves that there is a God above who is taking care of each of us and has His eyes on us all the time.
