The hymn ‘Blessed Assurance’ was written in 1873 by hymn writer Fanny Crosby. The music was written earlier to the lyrics by Phoebe Knapp the same year. The popular song reflects Crosby’s walk of faith, as expressed by the apostle Paul in Philippians 1:21, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain”.

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
0 what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

The song is a jubilant expression of the believers delight and gladness in having Jesus as our Redeemer and rests joyfully in the assurance of a perfect submission of one’s life into the Hands of God. The believer is lost in God’s love and sings praises to Him. The believer gets a taste of the glory that lies in Heaven after receiving Jesus and is unable to remain silent but give praise to God, all day long.
