Our brave firefighters are loved and looked up to not only because of their selfless work ethic but also that they often go above and beyond the call of duty to help others in need.
One firefighter winning hearts online for his selfless deed is Thomas Harwell, who did not think twice before scooping up an elderly woman up and carrying her across stadium steps.
Shayla and Thomas Harwell were attending a Bradbrave Paisley concert at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last week when they noticed a woman struggling to get to her seat.
Shayla’s husband is a firefighter for the Hardin Volunteer Fire Department north of Houston, Texas, and so Shayla pointed the elderly woman out to Thomas and asked him to help her out.
Thomas instantly jumped up to help the woman to her seat. After the show was over, Thomas saw the woman was too tired to get back up the stadium steps, so this real life hero once again scooped her into his arms and carried her the rest of the way.
“I’m almost shocked, I really honestly didn’t think it would go that far,” Shayla said. “She was very appreciative. When he placed her down at the top of the stairs, she was grinning ear to ear. It really touched her to have him help her.”
Y'all I have to brag on my husband big time tonight! He made me Soo proud. As we were sitting in our seats waiting for…
A picture of this brave heart has gone viral garnering many likes from viewers and even movie ticket offers from members of the public. Thomas modestly shrugs off the attention saying her was only doing his duty as a human being.
He said, “If you’re alive and breathing, you shouldn’t need an excuse to help someone else, if they need help, help them.”
