‘It Was Nothing But God’: Groom Almost Died on His Way to Wedding, Then Married Her At Hospital

An Orlando groom survived a brutal head-on crash on his wedding day leading to an unforgettable hospital wedding. Instead of canceling the ceremony the couple exchanged vows right from his hospital bed leaving families in awe of how faith changes everything.

The devastating crash happened on September 5. The groom Kapri DeRamus was driving to his wedding when another speeding car lost control and crossed right into his lane. It hit his vehicle head-on. First responders had to literally cut him out of the completely wrecked car. He was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center with severe injuries including two broken arms a broken jaw and a broken rib.

His bride Tyasia Thomas was getting her hair and makeup done and putting on her wedding dress when she got the terrifying phone call about the crash. She dropped everything and rushed straight to the hospital still wearing her wedding gown. Most people would just cancel the whole event but this couple decided they still wanted to get married that exact night.

A nurse at the hospital stepped up in a big way and gathered flowers from potted plants using rubber bands to make a beautiful makeshift bouquet for the bride. Kapri’s grandfather was already in town to officiate the ceremony so he stood right by the hospital bed and married them in a multipurpose room at the hospital. It was certainly not the fancy venue they originally booked but it was exactly where God wanted them to be.

We may go through many unexpected situations in our lives where we may lose hope when things don’t go as we planned. But God is always walking with us through the pain and giving us strength. Tyasia was absolutely terrified but she knew her husband’s survival was nothing short of miraculous. “I look at the pictures of his car, and I see where he was sitting, and it just looks like God just wrapped His arms around him in that front seat” Tyasia said.

Kapri was absolutely sure about how he survived. “It was nothing but God that got me through this” he said. Tyasia’s brother set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the medical bills and lost income because Kapri obviously has a very long road to recovery ahead of him.

When you look at that car you won’t expect someone coming out from that wreck alive. God’s hand was definitely covering him in that driver’s seat and protecting his life for a reason.

It is not because of our own carefulness or the safety of the vehicle we chose that we are still breathing right now it is only God’s pure mercy. How many times have we also had near misses and God protected us through them all?

As this couple proclaimed God’s goodness let us remember the ways God leads and protects us every day. As David says “His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” Psalm 34:1

Let us be thankful for every single moment He gives us to spend with our loved ones. Please keep Kapri and Tyasia in your prayers as he heals and they begin this new life together.
