Driving home from volunteering on a Friday evening in Everett, Massachusetts, Robin Gay faced every driver’s nightmare. Her car completely broke down right in the middle of a bustling roadway. Cars rushed past her at high speeds. Panic immediately set in as she feared someone might crash into her vehicle.

Thankfully hope arrived quickly in the form of seven student athletes from Everett High School. These young basketball players noticed her struggle and immediately jumped into action.

One student helped direct oncoming traffic while the others positioned themselves behind the disabled vehicle. They worked together seamlessly to push the car out of danger and into a safe parking space.

When the car reached safety Robin wanted to reward the teens for their hard work. She offered them money as a token of her gratitude. The young men refused without hesitation. They pushed her hand away and said absolutely not.

Instead of taking cash they offered her a warm hug to comfort her. One of the senior students Emmanuel Lerbout explained their simple motivation by stating “It doesn’t matter if you don’t know the person; if you know the person. If you see someone in trouble, just go help.”

Reading about how these teenagers put selflessness above everything else truly restores our faith in humanity. It is wonderful to see young people rooted in strong values of compassion and community support. The teens later received official recognition from their school for their inspiring teamwork.

Robin shared her deep appreciation for what they did that night. She noted “The impact they had, it was just unbelievable. You don’t realize what people are going through. The littlest things make a difference, and hopefully, the kindness keeps spreading.”

We praise God for these teens. Our absolute first priority in our homes and in our schools needs to be raising our kids to be people with true humanity. We got to pray for them and lead them right there in the faith. Because in today’s society that kind of heart is getting so rare. We need more teens like this.
