A young boy named AJ from the YouTube channel The Geter Fam is capturing hearts across the internet this week as he tells a Bible story about Shadrach Meshach and Abednego with absolute confidence and hilarious childhood charm.
It is always so refreshing when we see children grasping the deep truths of God. We spend so much time trying to figure out complicated theology but sometimes it just takes a child to remind us of the simple faith we are all called to have. Seeing a young mind hold onto the promises of God gives us so much hope for the next generation of believers.
In the video AJ sits casually on a grey storage bin and recounts the famous event from the book of Daniel. He explains how the king wanted everyone to bow down to a statue when the music started, but the three brave men refused.
AJ confidently states that they told the king “No we only listen to God” and even though his little toddler tongue just couldn’t quite pronounce Meshach and Abednego, his sweet effort to say their names adds to the charm of the moment.
The king decides to throw them in the fiery furnace because they refused to bow. AJ gets very animated explaining how God was there in the fire with them and how the king noticed there were extra people in the flames.
The best part comes at the end when the men come out of the furnace completely unharmed. AJ points out that they didn’t even smell like smoke. He wraps up the kids Bible lesson by firmly confirming they didn’t have a single burn or any fire on them at all.
Even though his version of the story had some innocent toddler mix ups along the way, I truly admire his desire to learn the word of God when many kids his age are just focused on watching cartoons or playing with their toys.
We get so worried about how to teach our kids about the Lord. We stress out over whether we are using the right words or picking the perfect Sunday school curriculum when all we really need to do is just talk to them about Jesus in our everyday lives.
A little boy like AJ didn’t learn about Shadrach Meshach and Abednego from some complicated theological seminar. He learned it because his parents simply took the time to tell him the stories of the Bible.
We have to realize that when we plant those seeds in our children they actually take root in ways we might never expect. We see him sitting there on a plastic bin talking about the fiery furnace and it just proves that the word of God is simple enough for a toddler to understand.
Sometimes we adults make faith so difficult and we overthink every little detail of our walk with God. We just need to have that simple childlike faith that believes God will show up in the fire with us and protect us from getting burned.
When we trust Him like that we actually start living out the faith we claim to have. Please keep AJ and his family in your prayers as they continue to raise him up in the word of God.
