Megan is your typical active woman with a healthy lifestyle. “I’m naturally healthy, naturally active. The one thing that was not checked was listening to my body,” she recalled. She is now 31 years old, but she had a heart attack almost two years ago.

“I was literally working out every day, for at least an hour,” she said. But, she experienced gastrointestinal pain last July 2020. She also felt excruciating pressure in her back. She described, “Once it became unbearable, that’s when I woke up my husband because I did have the symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, cold sweats, all of the above.” Her arms went numb, and her husband drove her to the hospital right away.

Megan was shocked to find out that she was having a heart attack. “To my knowledge, there was no family history of it that I have heard of. So, for me, it was just completely out of the blue,” she said. She was relieved to find out what it was and that the doctors were doing something to fix things.

She stayed for ten days in the hospital for treatment and monitoring. Megan is the type of person who does not dwell on negative things, but she used this experience to be better. “I use it as a motivator to push me, you know, to better myself.”

This fighter opened her dance studio fall season of 2020, shortly after this life-changing episode. She used this platform to share what she has learned from this experience with her students. “I’m talking to the kids about heart attacks and what it means to take care of your body and your health, and all of the above.”

On a lighter note, she considered it a privilege when people “won’t stress her out” because they knew that she suffered from a heart attack. She now uses her platform to educate people about taking care of our hearts and health as a whole.

Aside from enjoying long, healthy years, she gives this reason as to why we should take care of our bodies. Megan explained, “Nobody knows your body like you do. So, you have to listen to it. This is your temple. So, you have to protect it and take care of it the best you can.”

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
