Two wild birds surprised a woman by visiting her kitchen window daily, eventually forming a unique bond that led to daily handshakes and even introductions to their babies.
Suzy moved into a new apartment not knowing it came with two very curious visitors. On her first day, one of the birds landed at her kitchen window. “We were very excited,” she recalled. “I wasn’t a bird person.”
But the birds kept coming back, and she slowly felt drawn to them. Eventually, she decided to meet them outside.
They were unafraid and perched right on her hand. “It is like discovering a whole new world,” she said. “They just didn’t seem bothered by me at all.”
Suzy and her family named the pair Robert and Robera. The birds didn’t allow any other birds to visit.
When cockatoos tried to come near, Robert and Robera chased them away.
The couple acted like they were married, “bickering and then 2 seconds later, they’re preening each other and snuggling.”
One of the most touching parts of the story came when the birds brought their babies. “The babies are really quite adorable,” Suzy said.
She mentioned seeing two or three of them. The birds held on to her fingers gently, a small gesture that formed what she described as a special handshake.
