An Alabama teenager is crediting God for saving a 76-year-old woman driving with an active brain bleed after trouble sleeping sent him to work early that morning.
God works in strange ways sometimes. We get annoyed when our plans fall apart, but usually He has a reason for it. A little pain on our end might just be Him putting us right where He wants us to be.
Seventeen-year-old Johnson Thompson had trouble sleeping after he flipped his lawn mower and hurt himself a week prior. Because he could not sleep Thompson went to work early on June 30 at his family workshop in Tuscumbia.
Just before 5 a.m. he noticed a car pull over slowly across the street. Seventy-six-year-old Fannie Garner got out and began stumbling around. She had driven 15 to 20 miles from Cherokee without remembering the drive because of a severe headache.
Thompson walked to the end of the parking lot to check on her, and she asked where to find the nearest emergency room.
Recognizing the medical emergency Thompson brought Garner a chair, called 911 and stayed by her side until the ambulance arrived.
Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital where doctors discovered an active brain bleed before flying her to Birmingham Hospital for specialized care.
Both Garner and Thompson described their meeting as pure divine intervention.
Garner credited God completely for surviving the drive, stating, “Nothing but God. It had to be because I don’t remember it. I got there, and I got there safe.” She added that she had an angel with her in Thompson.
Thompson said, “It’s crazy how it could have turned out if God wouldn’t have placed me there that morning. So I don’t think it was a coincidence at all. I think the Lord, he protected me during that lawnmower incident, so he used me to help Miss Garner.”
Garner and her family reconnected with Thompson to present him with a homemade lifesaving award. Garner said, “I will never ever forget him,” sharing that they already made plans to attend his high school graduation next year.
Johnson thought he was just dealing with a painful injury and a restless night, but God was ordering his steps to stand in the gap for Miss Garner.
When small troubles and discomforts come into our lives, we usually complain, don’t we? But we need to learn to trust God in those moments, knowing that He sees what we are going through and has His hand on it.
Johnson believed that God delivered him from that lawnmower accident, and see how God turned that testimony into a blessing not only for him, but also for Miss Garner and her family.
Let us join together in praying for Fannie Garner’s full recovery, and ask the Lord to guide our steps whenever He needs us to be a blessing to others.
