A military dad’s surprise homecoming left his sixth-grader son in tears at a middle school in Colorado.

A sixth grader named Luke Vassighi sat with his friends in the Campus Middle School cafeteria in Greenwood Village, Colorado. He ate a Tootsie Pop and enjoyed a normal day. He remained completely unaware of the surprise waiting just around the corner.
His father is U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Vassighi. Kevin deployed overseas for 11 months. He served in Germany as part of a security assistance group for Ukraine. Kevin stepped into the lunchroom and approached his oldest son.
“Hey buddy,” Kevin said.
Luke sat in complete shock. He did not believe his father was really there.
“It’s not you,” the boy replied in disbelief.
“Yeah it is,” Kevin answered. “Get over here.”
The two embraced in a highly emotional moment. Luke cried, hugged his dad tightly, and said, “I missed you.”
The entire cafeteria erupted in loud applause while witnessing the heartwarming military reunion.
Father and son immediately picked up right where they left off. They even did their secret handshake in front of everyone. Kevin also brought a special gift for his boy. He handed Luke some Pokémon cards.
“I’ll never forget this moment for as long as I live,” Kevin said.
What a beautiful reunion.
Please keep all military families who are currently separated by deployment in your daily prayers.
