When Anita Wing Lee and Tim Muttoo posted their wedding photos, they didn’t expect 200 million people to stop scrolling. In a world obsessed with perfectly curated couples, their 16-inch height difference broke the mold. Tim is four feet tall and Anita is five-foot-four. But the real viral love story isn’t about how they look in a picture. It is about how patient faith turned a firm “no” into a connection that captured the internet.

It All Started With a Friendship
What started as a friendship became a beautiful Christian love story. Tim and Anita bonded over their shared faith and global humanitarian work. Tim is the co-founder of a water charity based out of California, doing humanitarian work in places like Africa and Cuba. Anita is a photographer and content creator.
For months they shared dinners and talked for hours. But Tim’s heart really started to shift during his first visit to the house where she was staying in Niagara. It was just a casual hangout. As he was getting ready to leave, Anita suddenly stopped and said, “Tim, let’s pray.” Tim was a little surprised and just agreed. But then they stood there and prayed for each other and she prayed over him. Tim later said, “There’s nothing like it when somebody is praying for you and they’re praying over you.” Hearing her talk to God on his behalf changed everything. That was the exact moment he realized she was someone special.
He Shared His Heart, but She Said “No”
Months later, on a trip to California, Tim took a massive risk. They were playing Uno and Anita was excitedly talking about her future plans to travel the world. Plans that didn’t include him. Tim’s heart pounded, and he blurted out, “What about me?” Caught off guard, Anita gently told him she just saw him as a friend. Tim was crushed, but he accepted her answer.
Back home, Anita started typing a long WhatsApp message explaining why they needed to stay friends, hoping to push him away for good. But right in the middle of crafting that text, she felt a prompting from God. God asked her, “Why are you trying so hard to push him away?” She hit send anyway, but in the days that followed, she wrestled with that quiet challenge. It forced her to look past physical differences and realize she felt a deep peace and joy whenever Tim was around.
Meanwhile, a heartbroken Tim visited his late father’s gravesite. Sitting in the quiet cemetery he prayed for direction. “Dad, I don’t know what to do,” he said out loud. “God brought this person into my life.” In that silence he heard a clear response from the Holy Spirit saying, “Just be patient. Tim, if there is love, it will grow.”
Tim Waited and Let God Work
Tim chose not to force anything. His patience gave Anita the safe space to let her feelings grow. Eventually, she picked up the phone to tell him her feelings had changed. Tim described that phone call as an unbelievable moment where they both knew God was birthing something bigger than just the two of them.
But before they even officially started dating, Tim sat down with Anita’s parents, who are both pastors. He wanted to honestly declare his intentions and commit to honoring their daughter. Tim later proposed on one knee at her favorite walking trail, and they are now married.
Through Tim’s new book ‘Love Can Grow’, they hope to inspire others to look beyond appearances when finding true love.
Trusting God With Rejection
Our hearts break when we hear a “no,” don’t they? When somebody rejects us, we usually do one of two things. We either run away hurt or we try to argue them into loving us. Look at what Tim did. He got a flat out “no” and, instead of sending a desperate text, he took his broken heart to God. And God told him to just be patient. Do you know how hard it is to be patient when you just got rejected? But the second Tim stepped back, the Holy Spirit stepped in. God spoke to Anita’s heart in a way Tim’s words never could.
Stop trying to argue people into seeing your value. You don’t have to convince anybody. If God intends for that person to be in your life, He will work it out. You just focus on the kingdom work He put in your hands today. Take your hands off the situation, let the Holy Spirit do the talking in their heart, and trust God with the “no”.
“Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5, NKJV)
