3-Year-Old Calls 911 on His iPad and Saves Grandma’s Life After She Collapses

A quick-thinking three-year-old in Mississippi grabbed his iPad to call 911 for help when his grandmother suddenly collapsed.

Almost every parent today faces the struggle of kids and screen time. A lot of times our busyness makes us hand them a device just to comfort them and keep them settled, and then it turns into a habit we just can’t seem to change. We all know the negative sides of too much device usage, but in this story God used a young boy’s iPad to literally save a life.

The scary situation unfolded in a Southaven home where little Ky’ier was hanging out with his grandmother, who he affectionately calls “Poopie”. His grandfather Jarvis Shipp had just gotten a phone call from his wife saying she wasn’t feeling well. But before Jarvis could even make it back home, she passed out.

That’s when the three-year-old sprang into action using his iPad to reach out to his family. “I called my mommy and said, ‘My Poopie passed out, my Poopie passed out,’” Ky’ier explained.

Most of us would expect a toddler to freeze or just cry in a scary moment like that. He didn’t just notice she was hurt but he actually found a way to speak up for her.

Somehow the young boy got connected to 911 dispatch and he stayed on the phone with the operators the entire time. He stood right by the front door describing his grandmother’s condition to the dispatcher while keeping an eye out for the paramedics to arrive.

Jarvis noted how the operators handled the situation. “They said they were going to call me back in case they could not get back with him, so I guess they got back with him,” Shipp said.

His mother Jhakiya Montgomery said she has no idea where her son learned how to call 911 or how he knew the right words to describe a medical emergency. She is just incredibly proud of how he helped the rescue workers every step of the way. When the paramedics finally pulled up to the house, Ky’ier didn’t hold back.

“When he saw them, he yelled, ‘Come on, doctors, come on doctors, help my granny, help my granny,’” Montgomery stated.

Did you notice the way he cheered them on instead of backing away? There is something incredibly brave about a little boy standing at the door shouting for healing to walk in.

The medical team quickly got his grandmother to the hospital where she was treated and later released. She is now back home and recovering well, and Ky’ier has been staying right by her side with his tablet close by. Jarvis was just so relieved his grandson was in the house because the outcome could have been terrible without him.

“I don’t like those tablets and them being with the phone, but in this situation, it was very helpful,” the grandfather admitted. While the three-year-old mostly uses his iPad for fun, his family finds deep comfort knowing their youngest stepped up when it mattered most.

His mother has no idea how her little son learned to dial 911 or what to say on the phone. But as the Bible says, the Lord gives wisdom, and I am praising God for guiding this child to make the right decisions to save his grandmother. I feel so incredibly grateful knowing that God watches over our families and leads us in a crisis. Please lift up this grandmother in your prayers today for a complete recovery and pray a continuous blessing over that smart little boy’s life.
