Two Preschool Girls Called Themselves Twins, Years Later Their Beautiful Bond Is Still Going Strong

Gia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland met in preschool and decided they were twins. Nearly a decade later, the viral duo who “share the same soul” are still proving that nothing can break that bond.

We adults overthink friendship so much. We look at people’s jobs, where they live, how they dress, whether they fit into our world. We have so many filters before we let anyone in. But children don’t work like that at all. They just see someone and think “I like you” and that’s it. No background checks, no conditions. Some friendships are just deeper than what we can explain, and this story is one of those.

How It All Started

Gia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland first met back in 2017 when they were both in preschool in Miami. They clicked immediately and from that point on they called themselves twins.

Their reasons made perfect sense to them — they were the same height, their birthdays are only a few days apart and they always loved to wear matching outfits every chance they got.

Their moms Ashley and Valencia just smiled and went along with it, knowing full well the world outside wasn’t going to be so kind forever.

The Words Nobody Expected

When the girls were four years old they were at a birthday party when an older kid told them flat out that they couldn’t be twins because they didn’t have the same skin color.

Gia was heartbroken and started crying. But then through her tears she said something that stopped everyone in that room.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re twins because we share the same soul.”

A four-year-old said that. I mean where does that even come from. Valencia said what Gia was really saying is that at our core we are all one, and honestly that’s a message most adults haven’t figured out yet.

Still Going Strong

Gia and Zuri just turned 13 and they celebrated their birthday together at a party in Miami. They know now that they aren’t biological twins but honestly nothing else has really changed between them. They still laugh together, still finish each other’s thoughts and still have that same warmth that started back in preschool.

They both agree on one thing — never let anyone get in between a friendship that’s real, and don’t let anyone tell you what your bond is worth.

May we all have a heart like Gia and Zuri to love others and consider them family regardless of color or background. Like Christ loves us, we should love others in the same way.
