Three young children in Texas miraculously escaped harm when a reckless driver smashed through their backyard fence right where they were playing near the pool.
We often forget how quickly our lives can change until a scary situation like this happens. But as believers we know that God shields us from danger even before we see it coming. And this family experienced it firsthand.
The crash happened around seven on a Sunday evening along Heritage Trace Parkway in north Fort Worth. A twenty-two year old driver in a Chevy Camaro lost control while speeding and plowed into a backyard.
Inside the fence five-year-old twin boys were in the pool while their two-year-old sister walked near the fence. Video showed the toddler stepping away just seconds before concrete pieces and fence debris flew across the yard.
My heart stopped watching that clip because a single second made all the difference.
The parents ran out to gather their children and praised God when they saw everyone was okay. They called their survival an “act of God” after seeing how close the impact came.
The father then went to check on the car where a passenger had a severe head gash and needed hospital care. Fort Worth police later cited the young driver for reckless driving.
Reading the family statement made me feel their deep pain and anger. They said “What happened to our family was not simply an accident. It was a terrifying reminder of how quickly reckless driving can turn into a tragedy.” They added “A fence can be repaired. Property can be replaced. But a child’s life cannot.”
The parents were frustrated that the driver only received a citation and a two hundred dollar fine.
Most days, we hear about incidents related to reckless driving. People are glued to their phones or driving under the influence, and the result is innocent people getting hurt or even losing their lives.
As the family said, it was absolutely the hand of God that protected their kids from harm. When we look back on our lives, we realize how many times God has watched over and preserved us. And even more than that, without us even knowing, He has protected us from hidden evil things more times than we can count.
It’s so important to pray over our family, our kids, and especially for our spiritual health these days. Prayer is the only weapon we have to fight against the dark, spiritual forces at work in this world.
“The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.” Psalm 121:7-8 (NKJV)
