Tonya Young called out to Jesus when she saw a massive truck tire flying toward her car on Interstate 285. She believes that her faith saved her from what should have been a deadly crash.
We all drive to work, or run errands without thinking twice about it. How many times have we missed an accident by just seconds or taken a different route that kept us safe?
Most of the time, we never even know about the close calls God saved us from. Through it all, He holds us in His arms and protects us even when we don’t see it.
This is how one woman survived a terrible crash that nearly took her life.
Tonya Young was driving to her job in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on May 5. She takes this same route every single day. Everything seemed normal until just before 7 a.m. She saw something coming toward her car.
“I looked up because I saw something flying,” Young said. “It was like the tire came like someone threw a frisbee. That’s how the tire was approaching.”
The huge tire from a commercial truck hit her windshield hard. It completely tore off the roof of her SUV.
The damage was so bad that anyone looking at her car would wonder how she lived through it.
But Young did something amazing in those few seconds before impact. She called out to Jesus.
“When I saw the tire approaching, I just remember saying ‘Jesus’ three times,” she said. “Based on what my beliefs are, when you call on Him, He will answer. And I believe He answered me that morning.”

Young’s car stopped by itself after the crash because of a safety feature. She doesn’t remember much about what happened next, but she remembers something the paramedics said.
“They opened the ambulance door and they were all like, ‘We would like to see who this angel is,'” she said. “That was a little terrifying for me because I didn’t understand what was going on.”
The crash hurt Young badly. She still has glass pieces in her chest and hasn’t been able to drive since it happened. But the hardest part might be knowing that her neighbor died in a similar crash just one week before.
“She didn’t make it and I did,” Young said. “I’m so thankful and truly blessed.” This experience has changed how she sees life and made her more grateful for each day.
After the crash, people sent tips with pictures of the truck that might have been involved. Police in Doraville are checking these leads.
Young learned something important about her faith through this terrible experience. “I’ve always learned that whatever is in you is what will come out of you,” she said.
Her deep trust in God came out naturally when she needed it most. She did not have to think about what to do. Her heart knew to call on Jesus.
Young’s story reminds us that God truly answers when we call on His name in faith. When you face troubles, call on Jesus. He’s listening, and He cares about what happens to you.
Please keep Young in your prayers as she continues to heal.
