A pet duck dressed in a soccer jersey became the most talked-about fan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a video of him walking through the streets of Mexico City went viral on social media.

God puts joy in the most unexpected places. And sometimes it shows up wearing a tiny green jersey and waddling down a busy street in the middle of the biggest soccer tournament on earth.
Hours before Mexico’s opening match on June 11, a video started spreading across social media. It showed a mom and her young son walking through the streets of Mexico City with their pet duck right behind them.
The duck was wearing a custom-fitted green Mexico national team jersey and tiny socks on his webbed feet. His name is Merlin and he is two years old.
People who saw the duck could not stop filming him. As the family walked through the city more people noticed the duck and pulled out their phones.
The videos spread fast and Merlin ended up with millions of views. Fans from all over the world left comments saying things like “We want to see Merlin in the stadium stands!” and “This duck is already a Mexican national treasure.”
